World Green Building Council
The World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) is a network of more than 100 national green building councils from around the world. Its founding meeting was in November 1999 in California, following meetings of national council representatives which began in 1998. It was incorporated in 2002.
It now claims to represent 25,000 organisations and to be the ‘…world’s largest international organisation influencing the green building marketplace’.
The national green building council in the UK is the UK Green Building Council (UK-GBC), a membership organisation campaigning for a sustainable built environment.
The World Green Building Council describes its mission as ‘…to strengthen green building councils in member countries by championing their leadership and connecting them to a network of knowledge, inspiration and practical support'.
It supports new and emerging Green Building Councils to help them establish leadership positions in their countries and transform local markets. It provides them with tools and strategies, helping them promote local green building action, address climate change, drive collaboration and increase the profile of the green building market.
It operates in accordance with bylaws approved by its members.
